5Peruvian Picchucha

Medium Fawn, 800567, Full Peruvian

Picchucha is a hidden treasure. At 12 years of age she still produces baby fine fleece with a lovely handle. This trait she passes on to her off-spring. She will bring to your herd fineness retained into maturity.

Piccuchua births easily, with plenty of milk for crias that gain weight rapidly and mature early. She is a rock solid production dam who is easy to care for with many more award winning cria's to come.

Picchucha was imported by Snowmass Alpacas with excellent confirmation and proven production records. She is breeding this fall to Snowmass Quechua's Contender for a fall 2010 cria

Wouldn’t you like to have an alpacas who carried fineness well into maturity?

Then Snowmass Snow Cloud is your man!

When breeding to SNOW CLOUD you not only get great genetics fine fleece, density, bundling and crimp, you get fabulous personalities. Snow Clouds has a wonderful personality. He’s easy to handle and sweet to be around. He also passes on this friendly personality to his offspring. What a joy it is to go into the pasture and have the alpacas stand and interact with you.

SNOW CLOUD continues to have fine fleece even as a mature breeding male. This is the result of careful breeding decision from SNOWMASS ALPACAS’S elite breeding program.

Retained fineness is proven through several generations. Snow’s sire, SNOWMASS MESSIAH at age 4 had a histogram of AFD 17.1. His dam, SNOWMASS DREAM CLOUD, also has an outstanding histogram at age 6, AFD 19.3. Snow passes on this lingering fineness to his offspring.

Colusa Riverside Alpacas has been working very hard over the past three years to develop their breeding program with nationally ranked EPDs in their alpacas. ARAPAHO SNOW'S MACCHU PICCHU HERDSIRE IS IN THE TOP EPDs in THE NATION for all traits. Macchu Picchu's half sister Whitney Snow has been honored in the AOA Nationals for her top trait ranking in curvature for the past 3 years. It is very rare to come across a stud whose significantly better than the national herd in all 9 fleece character trait EPDs. He is below 5% in most fiber trait determination and at most 19%. Guaranteed improvement in offspring fiber trait character for all histogram fiber traits, quite an attribute for a breeding sire. Also, the relatively rare combination of fineness, fiber weight increases and staple length are indeed an even more rare combination in a sire.

Macchu Picchu's AFD EPD is better then nearly 98% of the 16,828 alpacas tested by AOA in 2014. The uniformity of fiber EPD character is by far the most positive genetic attribute for Picchu. Picchu has proven over the past 6 years his fiber character also has longevity in fineness, with little change in AFD diameter with age. Though not a measurable trait on EPDs, clearly fiber longevity is a heritable trait Picchu can also pass along to offspring.

Macchu Picchu is in the tradition and genetics of Hemingway and Snowmass. Arapaho Snow's Macchu Picchu has fiber luster, staple length and crimp. He is an ideal alpaca with beauty outside and desirable genetics inside. Picchu improved his placing in the showring with a 1st place at age 4, over a 3rd at age 3. Picchu's Histogram AFD is minimally changed in the past 5 years. Not only is his fiber long and luxurious, his fineness is uniform throughout with a SD of 3.9. He has a gorgeous head, appropriate bite, and appropriate conformation. Probably fiber weight gain EPD of 1/2 pound (0.529 FW) in offspring is very important.

  Awards Received
1st place light male age 2 & older. Gold Country Gathering 2012 - Judge remark was this boy deserves first place at age 4. The sign of quality herdsire he can place higher at age 4 than age 3 in an adult class.
3rd place light male age 2 & older: California Classic 2011
EPDs: Accuracy of his EPDs are greater than 0.4. Insuring his predictability of improvement to very good. His national rankings are truly remarkable, especially when you look at his rankings across all traits.
