CPeruvian Fern

Medium Fawn, 806417, Full Peruvian

Fern defines the phrase "foundation female". She is a strongly built production girl who has effortlessly given us 2 beautifully robust and conformationally sound cria. She was selected for import and passed all of the stringent tests that were required. Her crias have high IGG ranging from 2500-3500, gain weight quickly, and are wonderfully healthy and alert. Her milk is plentiful.

We will be keeping Fern as a part of our foundation group and have reluctantly sold her 2003 daughter Talulah. Both possess strong genetic vigor and we want to be sure to continue the line in our herd. Her true black male from 2004 will be a star of our show string as soon as he is old enough. His fiber character is incredibly crimpy, fine, and lustrous - and oh what a head and presence. From the moment he could stand, his perfect conformation was evident. The photo at right was taken at an incredible 1 hour old !

There are few of these import girls around and they are a precious p

  My Peruvian Chance
    True Black, 816391, Full Peruvian

Chance is a full Peruvian BLACK herdsire with outstanding coverage and fleece character from base to tip. His fleece is extremely dense and finely crimped. He is strongly built and has an excellent disposition. His bloodline is rare to the U.S. since his sire, CPeruvian Timo resides in Canada. His dam, Peruvian Columbine, was imported through Canada from Peru, and has had two black offspring when bred to black.

Chance cria can now be seen under the progeny links shown below. Note the consistency of the square conformation and erect presence that he has stamped on his off-spring. They have also inherited outstanding fiber character. 2004's 3 cria have proven themselves in the showring with first, second, and third place positions. His 2004 cria started showing in the fall of 2004 and have followed in their predecessors footsteps. He has a high percentage of black off-spring even from white dams. "The Count", as he is referred to on our farm, is an exceptional true black male, with density, crimp that extends to his tips, and perfect conformation. His fiber has beautiful sheen with bundling and a soft waxy handle.

Color runs deep in his lineage. His true black sire, My Peruvian Chance produced an incredible 9 true black, 2 dark brown, and 3 fawn in his first year of cria births. The dams were white, fawn, brown, and black. His granddam has produced dark brown, silver gray, and black. His grandsire, Timo, is a well-respected producer of ribbon-winning off-spring in Canada. Only 8 of his off-spring reside in the USA.

His dam, Fern is one of our foundation females and a prized member of our herd. She is medium fawn with a gray muzzle and has always produced black or dark brown cria, even from lighter sires. She is a Peruvian import brought into the US under the strictest of criteria. Her cria have high IGGs, vigorous growth, and benefit from her outstanding mothering skills.

The count has the depth of color background that ensure him of being a reliable producer of dark off-spring. His appealing phenotype make him a favorite of farm visitors, and his genetic background make him a desirable candidate for herdsire. Density and excellent crimp character are qualities shared by both sides of his lineage. It was difficult to make the decision to sell him and we will retain 4 breedings to him. His price reflects his quality and rarity !
