The alpacas consistently create fleeces that are second to none for commercial value and homespun goodness that knitters, spinners, and weavers adore. We take great pride in sharing our 20 years of experience with new owners helping them to understand and succeed with raising alpacas, and are delighted to offer our herd's genetics to existing breeders as well. You'll find our alpacas on farms nationwide.

Our alpacas are family and we are committed to the health and well-being of them. The alpacas live and grow in a mountain environment on native pastures with free access to lush hay, shelter and water, and plenty of companionship. We celebrate each birth and welcome newly acquired arrivals into our herd "farmily" as guests of honor. All of the alpacas are uniquely named, and bless our mountain home with the colors of the alpaca rainbow - white, grey, black, golden fawn, rose, maroon, and all shades in between. The females are great moms that adore their crias, and the herdsires, well they are just magnificent. This farm specializes in happy pacas living a natural lifestyle and provide us with fiber once exclusive to Incan royalty. This is a very special love story we are glad to share with you.

Paca Kids

My husband Les and our daughters, Kelsey and Meghan, have been raising alpacas since 1998. We are active members of the Virginia Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association and are also speakers at the Virginia State 4H Congress each year. Our farm supports the efforts and needs of our local FFA (Future Farmers of America) Chapter, and we host a variety of farm tours several times a year. Poplar Hill Alpacas also hosts quarterly on site alpaca health / reproduction seminars for the veterinary students attending the Virginia / Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. This hands on lab has been an incredible opportunity giving these future vets the experience to work in a real farm atmosphere and see healthy alpacas that are among the best in the U.S.

We welcome your questions and any special requests for advice, fiber, or if you just want to "talk alpacas".

Cold nights listening to alpacas enjoy their evening hay. Yearlings pronking around the pasture at dusk..this is home at Poplar Hill.
