The only color chart I know of is the one you can order from ARI. I beleive it is around $16.00. Good luck finding one!

Hi Marc -

The color chart is available from The Alpaca Registry, Inc. There are 2 charts available: 1 for suri, 1 for huacaya. Cost is $16.00 each. Two ways to order: online or by mail using ARI's order form.

Go to:

To print out ARI's order form, click on the link near the bottom of the home page titled "ARI Color Chart". Print out the order form, fill it out, mail to ARI, following instructions on the form.Color charts will be mailed to you when payment is processed.

To order online, you must be a member of ARI. From the home page, click on the link for "Member Services" and log in with your username and password. From the Member Services page, click on the link for "Shopping List". There you will find Color Charts listed. Choose the one(s) you want (suri and/or huacaya) and follow the on-screen directions to complete and pay for your order. Once payment information is submitted, you will receive an order confirmation. Your color chart will be mailed to you.

I recently ordered a color chart online; it arrived in about a week.

All the best,

And by the way, the color charts we used at AOBA had the same colors in them whether they said Huacaya or Suri.

I was wondering about that. I have both huacayas and suris and have only seen one color chart. They only had 1 chart for the longest time. I was surprised to hear they even had a separate chart for suris. Seems like the colors should be the same for both.

Hi Diana,

I was surprised when we had 2 differently labeled ones at AOBA, but other that the word Huacaya or Suri on them they were exactly alike.
Seems like someone just decided that they had extra money to spend so ordered 2 names for the same thing!

Bob, I don't know about the extra money thing but the fiber on the two charts is huacaya. When I bought mine at the Nationals a few years ago, I noticed that there wasn't any hint of luster on the suri chart. I took it back and it was explained to me that they are "color" charts not "fiber" charts. Kathy

If memory serves, there were requests (whines) for the chart.
As a color checker, I always make sure to use the correct chart. I can't tell the difference, but I have heard people request (whine) that the proper chart be used.
