Is it ok to shut alpacas in a barn at night or during very cold weather(I live in MN)? How do I set up an area for thier poop pile if they are in the barn for more than a few hours? How big of a barn do I need for no more than 4 alpacas? Thanks!

My alpacas come in at night of their own accord, so I do shut the doors (if they're not going out, why let the cold in? I'm in Maine, BTW) They're totally fine with it and know the routine. Some animals have never been confined and may want the doors open - you'd need to experiment a little.

I have "litter boxes" for the alpacas inside - 2x4s (lying flat) in a square with wood pellets inside (to absorb the urine). About 90% of the poop ends up in them, and I just scoop them out daily.

If the animals are going to be confined at night with a poop area, I'd opt for the bigger the better - if you could manage something like 10x20 that would be more than adequate.
